(August 31, 2009) - A ceremony will be held to celebrate the upcoming laying of the foundation for the first building in the East Parmenter Street revitalization program. The 24-lot site on one of Newburgh’s great historic streets will be transformed into a combination of affordable and workforce housing. The new building will contain five units: three to be developed by LeylandAlliance and two to be developed by Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh. City of Newburgh officials, local dignitaries, representatives of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh, and the developer LeylandAlliance will attend and speak at the event. WHEN: Wednesday, September 2, 11:00 AM WHERE: East Parmenter Street @ Spring Street. Parking will be available nearby at the Washington Street municipal parking lot. WHY: This is a significant milestone for the City of Newburgh and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh in terms of revitalizing one of the great historic neighborhoods of Newburgh and creating much-needed, reasonably-priced housing. Habitat will be building 8 new affordable homes there. On the remaining 16 home sites, LeylandAlliance will build a mix of “workforce” townhomes and single family residences. The master plan, prepared by noted architect Michael Watkins of Duany, Plater-Zyberk & Company (“DPZ”), includes small duplex cottages, townhomes, and small single family homes. DPZ also designed the master plan for the nearby Newburgh Waterfront project to be developed by LeylandAlliance and the City of Newburgh. Back |
